The beginning shows 2 kids meeting, growing up and getting married. Shows them starting out and painting a nursery. Then shows them sad in a doctor's office with a pregnant woman illustration in the background. Obvious conclusion is she lost the baby in miscarriage . NICE touch for a kids movie! Then shows them growing old and the wife dies in a hospital. Another uplifting scene for a kids' movie! Finally the main character sets off adventure like they had always planned by launching his house with helium balloons. He arrives in South America only to be chased by a mob of scary dogs and an evil villain (an adventurer he once admired. Once AGAIN, a depressing turn of events.
I don't understand why Disney/most kids' animated movies have to have a dark depressing element. There's plenty of that already in reality. This movie had some funny parts, but I think they were all shown in the preview commercials.
I love to take my kids to the movie, but would much rather they be happy, fun and uplifting movies. I think most people feel the same. I should have checked it out more before we spent $40+ at the local theater.
Another day, another story,
Em
